FAQs

How much does it cost? Registration fee is $260. For first year players, equipment costs are about $200-$250.

What does Registration fee cover? The registration fee covers the costs of league administration costs. officiating, trainers on site for every game, membership in US Lacrosse (includes a number of benefits including injury insurance for practices and games), uniforms, field use fees, team and coaching equipment.

What equipment is required and what does it cost? First year players will need a helmet (team colors), shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves and at least one stick, though, since sticks break, a replacement stick is recommended. Locally owned FACEOFF Alabama (located on Hwy 31 in Vestavia), Alabama's only lacrosse-only store, offers a start up package for around $200, including everything but stick in team colors. Sticks start at $25 and go way up; I recommend spending $40-50 for your primary stick and about $25 for a backup, which can be purchased later. Their staff of knowledgable local HS players, can help you select. You can also visit any number of websites or Dick's Sporting Goods.

Additional equipment includes mouth pieces, cleats and and protective cup. Mouthpieces are REQUIRED BY RULE for all practice and games, and CAN NOT BE CLEAR OR WHITE! Protective cups are not required by rule, but anyone entering lacrosse field with out on is a fool!

Will there be any other costs? I'd like to say no, but... While the team receives a portion of the registration fee for uniforms, field rentals and some coaching and field equipment, this does not cover all the costs of operating and administering our team. Additionally, team management and coaching is strictly volunteer, with a small number of parents and volunteers contributing significant amounts of time in support of Homewood Lacrosse. Consequently, we will be conducting additional fundraising activities during the year, and parents will be expected to volunteer or contribute in some manner to support these efforts.

Our budget, fundraising and volunteering needs, and obligations and expectations of coaches, players and parents will all be discussed at a parent meeting at the start of the season.

How long is the season? We will begin practice in mid Jan, with our first game Feb 26. Currently we have a 14 game schedule through the end of April, excluding 3-4 games during the Dan Anderson Lacrosse Classic tournament, the last weekend in March, and the BYLL Championship Tournament the first weekend in May. During our inaugural 2007 campaign, Homewood Lacrosse went 8-11, including tournament play. Games will average about one per week and generally will be played on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays, and include JV and Varsity games.

What is the practice schedule? Practice will begin in mid January, and will be about 3-4 times a week, until the season starts when we will adjust to 2-3 times a week.

Where are practices and games? Though not finalized, practices will likely be held at the upper (back) fields a W. Homewood Park. We hope to play our home games on the football practice field at Homewood HS, as we did last year, but again, those arrangements have yet to be finalized.

What about playing time and instruction? We plan to have a competitive Varsity team, and a Jr. Varsity team this season. Everyone will get to learn and play lacrosse, but only our best 20-22 players will play on the Varsity.

Please don't hesitate to contact us. Visit this site often for the lastest registration, practice and schedule information. Again, along with emeil, this will be the primary source of up-to-the-minute information on Homewood Lacrosse.
